Brazil is a continental sized country. It carries an incredible biodiversity, divided basically in six natural ecosystems (BIOMAS). Most of them are endemic.

The country also holds a great social diversity, spread out in its five different regional characteristics.

Terra Brasilis proposes to take you out of big Brazilian towns and let you experience the country´s interior, driving comfortably on some of the best routes. Explore natural areas and remote villages on our Off-Road trips. Or even ride trains or sand buggies over wild beaches.

In that sense we designed 14 different trips to fit your most adventurous spirit. These trips can be operated on a private basis, fully escorted, in a regular or budget arrengement. We can aslo prepare the trip for you to do it on your own way and time.

Most of our Best on route programs link big cities, suce as: Salvador to Recife; Rio to São Paulo; or Rio to Belo Horizonte. This is a way of knowing remote towns, beautiful historical villages, farming areas and exclusive natural spots.

BR#001 – The Dutch Fleet Tour (Surface) – Salvador to Recife by the coast – 4 days & 3 nights

MapSALVADOR DA BAHIA TO RECIFE(809 kms or (497miles). Ride on a long coast line road, sometimes along the seaside, with nice and calm beaches and surprises like Praia do Forte and the Park of Dunes in Mangue Seco; sometimes by inside roads exploring small colonial villages (XVII), witnesses of a rich past. After Mangue Seco trip follows by federal road BR101 to a short cut to the ocean route. Cross of the legendary São Francisco river in a rustic ferry. Penedo is located on the other side of the river: it is a historical jewel bathed by the great river (Old Chico). Next we explore the Coral Reefs Coast Park, that starts after Maceio and go until Porto de Galinhas. We end the tour in Recife, capital of Pernambuco State, known as the Brazilian Venice. Plenty of river channels and lines of colonial buildings. Recife was designed by Dutche, reason why we call it: The Dutch fleet surface. This route  witnessed the war of Dutches against Portuguese.

Day 1SALVADOR – MANGUE SECO: Early departure from Salvador to the green line, visiting Praia do Forte. Continue to Siribinha. Lunch on the beach and rest of afternoon sand buggy sand expedition by the beach (50km) to Mangue Seco. Late afternoon arrival. Accommodation and overnight at Pousada (lodge)
Day 2MANGUE SECO – PENEDO: Morning trek to the beach. Departure the village in speed boat, exploring the channels and rivers till the port of Pontal. Continue driving to São Cristovão (4th oldest city in Brazil – world heritage by UNESCO), Aracaju, São Francisco´s fruit valley and cross the river to Penedo (Alagoas). Overnight at local hotel.
Day 3PENEDO – PRAIA DO TOQUE: Morning departure to visit the mouth of the São Francisco river,  with a nice boat tour. Continue along the seashore to Maceio and Costa dos Corais (Coral Reefs Coast Park). Overnight in Praia do Toque.
Day 4 – PRAIA DO TOQUE – RECIFE: Continue next day to Maragogi, then enter at Pernambuco state. Stop at Carneiros beach for a quick visit and lunch at Porto de Galinhas. We end our tour in the afternoon at Recife or Olinda.

BR#002 – RIO´S GREEN COAST (Ilha Grande & Paraty) – Basic: 4 Days & 3 Nights

igrejaRIO DE JANEIRO TO PARATY – The Green Coast package is a basic option to paratyexplore part of one of the most scenic roads of Brazil: Rio-Santos. Imagine driving and have in one side of the road beautiful beach spots, estuaries, bays and rivers; and on the  other side a giant green wall, the Serra do Mar mountain range (pristine Atlantic Rain Forest) droping dizzily into the blue and green sea shore. Four days are dedicated to explore the natural beauties of Ilha Grande and Lopes Mendes beach (one of the to 10 best beaches in the world). Trek inside the Atlantic Rain Forest and take a speed boat adventure to the best beaches, including the Ecological Reserve of Aventureiro. Continue to Paraty, the amazing Colonial port with its baroque architectural style, charming and with a good infra-structure.

Day 2 – ILHA GRANDE: Speed boat around the Island and night forro dance. Overnight

BR#004 – Imperial RIO & Historical Towns of MINAS GERAIS -(4 Days & 3 Nights)

The region has been one of the world´s richiest in gold and diamonds, specially in the XVIII century. The Gold rush brought to the region different people and cultures that contributed to buid an unique architecture spreaded by a few cities and villages.  Three of them are world heritage by UNESCO. Our Tour  allows you to explore some of these cities, including the surroundings (farming areas and rural places). We include the Imperial city of Petropolis, as a strategic point to present the whole Estrada Real: The Royal road, used by miners in the Colonial period to connect with the port of RIO. Amazing attractions that makes the trip very special with surprises at each part of the route. After Petropolis explore the baroque jewel, the city of Tiradentes, followed by Congonhas and the world heritage Church of Bom Jesus do Matozinhos. Then Ouro Preto and Mariana. Drive to Ouro Preto visiting on route the The Church of Bom Jesus do Matosinhos (Congonhas), home of the the 12 prophets: a masterpiece work of art built by the most famous baroque sculptor – Aleijadinho (XVIII). Arrival in Ouro Preto. Rest of the afternoon and evening free. Overnight at Pousada Classica or similar.
Day 3 – OURO PRETO: Day dedicated to explore the old capital of Minas GeraisVilla Rica, today Ouro Preto. Near by is Mariana, another UNESCO world heritage. Tour inside the biggest gold mine of Brazil: Mina da Passagem.

BR#006 – Sand Dunes & Canyons – Bahia and Sergipe States (5 Days & 4 Nights)

: This tour combines two different natural and exotic ecosystems. Experiencing this contrast is what makes this Tour an amazing option for a deep Brazil incursion. First the blue colors of the sea and the whiteness sand dunes, coconut lined along the beach and the emotion of ridding in an open sand buggy car through this beach Paradise called Mangue Seco. The Village of Sand Dunes seems to be lost in a strip of land sided by the black fresh waters of Una Estuary and the blue sea waters. After this marine experience we take a speed boat expedition by the channels of Mangrove green forest. Finaly entering the arid and brown territory of Caatinga or Sertões, an ecosystem very rich in diversity – natural and cultural. In this remote and dry area colors of plants, flowers and the red brown of the soil is a singular: paradise for photographers. At the canyons´ area we make another boat tour to explore the big wall of the canyons and bathe at the green waters of the lakes and river around.

BR#007 – RECONCAVO BAIANO 3 DAYS & 2 NIGHTS

map of the Bay of All SaintsSALVADOR TO RECÔNCAVO BAIANO: The area surrounding the All Saints´ Bay is known as Recôncavo Baiano: one of the most important sugar cane production center (XVII and XVIII); and later on tobacco (XIX). The region drains several rivers that are used up to this days to sail down to Salvador the agricultural and craft´s production. In the past these same rivers were used to take Sugar down to Salvador and from there to Europe. It was the first economic period of Brazil and the sugar richness built marvelous historical towns around in the region, such as Cachoeira, Santo Amaro, São Felix, Nazaré and Jaguaripe. After the sugar period there was no more development, but the region kept its characteristics and became traditional and historical heritage. At the sugar cane plantation some of the Afro Brazilian culture initially manifestated, through dances like Maculele and Capoeira, Samba de Roda (World immaterial heritage). Day 1- SALVADOR – CACHOEIRA: Morning departure from Salvador to the Reconcavo Baiano, visiting  Candeias, Monte Reconcavo (beautiful view of the Bay). Follow to São Francisco do Conde and São Francisco do Paraguassu. Paraguassu is the big river of the region: we will explore it after lunch, including the amazing ruins of the Old Franciscans Convent (XVII). Arrival at Cachoeira late afternoon. Evening free. Overnight at the Pousada do Convento: an old convent, today a hotel.
Day 2 – CACHOEIRA – JAGUARIPE: Early morning visit to the main market of the village: great chance to learn about the many exotic fruits and vegetables used in the Bahian gastronomy. Cross the Paraguassu river and visit to a Cigar factory. Continue to the south part of the Recôncavo. Visit Nazaré das Farinhas: an old colonial town and today a great road market. Arrival at Jaguaripe, a small colonial village. Overnight at a beautiful Pousada by the river.
Day 3- JAGUARIPE – SALVADOR: Morning to explore the river and the island of Itaparica. Return to Salvador crossing the All Saints´ bay on a Ferry-Boat. Late afternoon arrival in Salvador (Airport or hotel). End of our services.

BR#008 – São Luis & Lençois Maranhenses National Park (4 Days & 3 Nights)

Map of the MaranhãoSÃO LUIS – BARREIRINHAS – LENÇÓIS MARANHENSES: Maranhão is the secret of Brazil. But open for visitors to discover the charm of authentic old colonial villages. São Luis is the capital of the state and is a world heritage: many beautiful buildings carrying Portuguese tiles on their forefront. The historical center is spread out around the local Mercado das Tulhas (Local market). Folklore and culture are very strong and it is part of the many communities of Boi Bumbá: traditional Maranhão folk expression. The nightlife with Brazilian live music and good gastronomy is an extra attraction. A 3 – 4 hours drive leads visitors to the coast and its astonishing Lençois Maranhenses National Park (155.000 hectares): a giant complex of white sand dunes with thousands of crystal clear water lagoons.

BeachDay 1 – SÃO LUIS: Arrival and Transfer to a lodge in the Historical center. Afternoon dedicated to explore the city on a walking tour by the well preserved World Heritage: São Luis is famous for the blue and white Portuguese tile forefronts. Dinner with live Brazilian music in the Reviver area around the old Tulhas´ Market. Overnight.
Day 2 – SÃO LUIS – BARREIRINHAS: Morning departure by car to Barreirinhas: the gateway to the astonishing National Park of Lençois Maranhenses: 155.000 hectares of giant white sand dunes and crystal clear water lagoons with blue and green colors. Arrival and Lodge. Afternoon half day 4×4 expedition to the park and explore the dunes, bathe in the lagoons and watch one of the most beautiful sunsets in Brazil. Back to lodge and overnight
Day 3 – BARREIRINHAS: Full day dedicated to explore Rio Preguiças on a speed boat: fisherman small villages and natural sites. Rio Preguiças links the city with the ocean and was used to transport products like Carnauba wax and Buriti to the rest of Brazil. Visit a mangrove forest, Vassouras and the small Lençois (Golden Dunes), the lighthouse with superb view, Cabure beach and the nesting area of the red guaras. Overnight.
Day 4 – BARREIRINHAS – SÃO LUIS: Transfer to São Luis (Airport or hotel). End of services.

NOTE: Best period is when the lagoon are full, from April to October.

BR#009 – Route of Emotions (Sunset Coast) São Luis to Fortaleza – 7 days/6 nights& 6 Nights.

SÃO LUIS – FORTALEZA: “Route of Emotions” or “Sunset Coast”: you choose the name, we give you the challenge! This coastal route links 3 brazilian state: Maranhão, Piauí and Ceará. Combined this route has three of the best Ecotourism destinations in the country. Starting in colonial city of São Luis, tour follows to the astonishing Lençois Maranhenses National Park: a large complex of sand dunes and crystal clear water lagoons. Next is is the state of Piaui, exploring the Delta of Americas (world´s 3rd largest river delta). Tour ends at the village of Jericoacoara, also a National Park. It is quite an experience exploring this route, remote villages, desert beaches, rustic fishermen activities and spots, along with three great natural parks.

Day 3 – BARREIRINHAS – CABURÉ: Departure Barreirinhas on a speed boat by the Preguiças river. Visits on the way: Mangroove forest, Vassouras (small Lencois), fishermen village, the lighthouse with superb view and Cabure beach. Overnight at Caburé (one of the most remote villages in our route).
Day 4 – CABURÉ – PARNAÍBA: Departure on 4×4 jeep by the coastline: sand beach is the road, crossing desert beaches, sand dunes and small lost villages such as Luis Correa. Lunch on route. Arrival in Parnaiba. Speed boat tour on the Delta of Americas. Nice option for observation of fauna and flora (world´s third largest fluvial delta). Overnight in the historical port of Parnaiba.
Day 5 – PARNAÍBA – JERICOACOARA: Morning departure on the 4×4 adventure, using paved and unpaved roads till Camocim, in Ceara State. Cross in a rustic ferry and continuation to  Jericoacoara (National Park). Arrival and lodge. Rest of afternoon and evening free. Sunset a Duna Grande reccomended. Overnight
Day 6 – JERICOACOARA: Day free to leisure and explore the surroundings. Overnight.
Day 7 – JERICOACOARA – FORTALEZA: Transfer by 4X4 to Fortaleza (4-5 hours). Drop off ( Airport or hotels). End of our services.

BR#010 – BRASIL CENTRAL: JALAPAO 4×4 EXPEDITION (4 Days & 3 Nights)

Map of the TocantinsPALMAS (TOCANTINS STATE) – JALAPÃO: One of the youngest Brazilian state is Tocantins, located on Brazil´s real hinterland. The city of Taguaruçu is a strategic place to visit several protected and indigenous areas: it is a HUB for the Off-road expedidions. Our main focus is  JALAPÃO: a State Park with magnificent and unique environment.  158 mil hectares of waterfalls, streams of bright pure fresh water, high natural walls, caverns, golden dunes and crystalline lakes. Our package will explore the cerrado ecosystem in four days: board in a 4×4, including the waterfalls of Taguaruçu, natural rock formation, crystal clear water lakes and a relaxing bathe in one of the few streams. Tour  also includes a visit to a quilombola community (ex slaves) and local natives working crafts with Capim Dourado. Other crafts from Jatobá palm are produced in a sustainable.

This program can be operated only on a private basis. We normally use pousadas: charm or ecological lodges. This tour has half board included to facilitate the 4 X 4 logistics.

 ITINERARY

Man in a waterDay 1 – PALMAS – TAGUARUÇU: Arrival at Airport  and transfer to  Taguaruçu and lodge. Along the wayshort city tour in Palmas. Waterfall tour in Taguaruçu. Overnight Pousada Serra das Aguas (or similar).
Day 2 – TAGUARUÇU – MATEIROS: Early departure on 4×4 to Jalapão, visiting on the way Ponte Alta, Gruta Sussuapara, Pedra Furada and Velha, a waterfall: pic nic lunch at river beach. Afternoon exploring the Serra do Espirito Santo and its beautiful rock formations (the post card of Jalapão). Visit the dunes and continue to Mateiros. Lodge at Pousada Santa Helena (or similar). Overnight.
Day 3 – MATEIROS: Full day dedicated to explore the central area of the park: Fervedouros (springs and natural clear blue water swimming pools), beautiful Formiga and Prata waterfall. Typical lunch in a community of Mateiros. Visit to the traditional Quilombo do Mumbuca (ex-slaves community)  and the interesting crafts produced with capim dourado (Golden Grass). Overnight in Mateiros.

BR#011: BRASIL CENTRAL – Deep Brasil Expedition I (6 days & 5 Nights)

Map of the TocantinsOne of the youngest Brazilian state is Tocantins, located on Brazil´s real hinterland. The city of Taguaruçu is a strategic place to visit several protected and indigenous areas: it is a HUB for the Off-road expedidions. The Brasil Central Tour is a 4×4 expedition starting from Palmas to the Bananal Island, exploring the Araguaia National Park and the Javaes Indian Territory. Follow to  Krahos Indian Territory by the federal road Brasilia-Belem, passing by the Natural Monument of the Petrified Forest. Arrival at Maranhão State for 2 days exploring the rock formations, waterfalls and trails of the Chapada das Mesas National Park.

This program is operated only on a private basis. We normally use pousadas: charm or ecological lodges – This tour has half board included to facilitate the logistic of the visits in 4×4.

ITINERARYIndians
Day 1 – PALMAS: Arrival and transfer to Hotel Pousada do Girasol (or similar). Preparation for our expedition and city tour in Palmas. Overnight.
Day 2 – PALMAS – PARAISO DO TOCANTINS: Early departure to Bananal Island crossing the Rio Tocantins heading to Mato Grosso boarder. Overnight in Paraíso do Tocantins.                                  Day 3 – ARAGUAIA NATIONAL PARKfull day exploring the Park and the Indian territories, Cristalandia and Lagoa da Confusão.
Day 4 - ARAGUAIA NATIONAL PARK – CAROLINA: Departure to Bananal Island by the federal road Brasilia-Belem along the great Tocantins river. Visit the National Monument of the Petrified Forest: unique park in Brazil. Continue driving to Maranhão State. Overnight in Carolina.
Day 5 – CAROLINA: Full day dedicated to explore the waterfalls, lakes, trails and rock formation of the fantastic Chapada das Mesas National Park.
Day 6 – CAROLINA: Full day dedicated to the park.                                                                        Day 7 – CAROLINA – Departure to nearest aiport (Carolina or Imperatriz). Or train to São Luis (Capital of Maranhão). Or return to Palmas by the federal road.

BR#012 – BEACH BUGGY Adventure from Natal to Fortaleza (5 Days & 4 Nights)

MapBuggyNATAL TO FORTALEZA: More than an expedition or a exploring trip, the concept of the Sand Buggy trip between Natal and Fortaleza is only one: Beach Life! This part of Brazil known as the curve of Brazil has an ocean of beaches with warm and calm water, sand dunes, fantastic seafood. The idea is leisure and sea breeze. Each sand buggy car takes 2 persons and their luggage. Necessary equipment: towel, hat, swiming suit and flip flops. If the tour starts by Natal there is the first gift: the Dunes of Genipabu. Then comes a sequence of beach spots: Maracajau, São Miguel do Gostoso, Galinhos, Oporto, Ponta do Mel, Areia Branca, Icapui, Canoa Quebrada, Aracati and Fortaleza. The trip is completly flexible. We have four good places to overnight: Sao Miguel, Galinhos, Ponta do Mel and Canoa Quebrada. In between these cities there are several stopping places, according to participants´ will.

ITINERARY

Day 1
– NATAL – SÃO MIGUEL DO GOSTOSO
: Early pick up at hotel. Sand buggy car to Genipabu dunes and lagoons´ area north of the city. Continue by the beach side, stopping in Maracajau for beach relax and fresh fish lunch. Follow by the beach side to São Miguel do Gostoso. Overnight and relax.

Day 2 – SÃO MIGUEL DO GOSTOSO – GALINHOS: Departure on sand buggy by the beach side to Galos and arrival the nice Galinhos. Rest of the day free to enjoy the beach lodge. Overnight.
Day 3 – GALINHOSPONTA DO MEL: Departure on  sand buggy to explore another grouo of beaches, such as Oporto till Ponta do Mel. Overnight.
Day 4 - PONTA DO MELCANOA QUEBRADA: Departure Ponta do Mel to Ceara coast: colored falesias area. Beautiful cliffs with different colors, like walls at our side. Next is Areia Branca, Icapui and Canoa Quebrada (the old hippie village famous in the 60´s) Ovenright..
Day 5 – CANOA QUEBRADA – FORTALEZA: Morning to relax in Canoa Quebrada. Transfer to Fortaleza. Drop off at airport or hotel. End of our services.

BR#013 – PANTANAL Train transfer (a week in Pantanal & Bonito) 7 Days & 3 Nights

South of Pantanal is a region with large bays and lagoons, hosting two of the best Ecological Destinations of Brazil. Bonito is one of them: the name means beautiful. You can imagine what´s waiting for you. Our proposal with this program is to offer you a week in the region. Observe the exuberant fauna at  Fazenda São Francisco (Jaguar watch) and Fazenda Santa Clara.                                                                                                                                                                Experience three days in Bonito: fluctuation in fishy rivers, crystal clear lakes, caves and river activities (kayaking and rafting). This tour also gives a chance to experience a train ride on the  legendary Pantanal Train. The trip crosses wetlands and hills. See waterfalls and colorfull birds (macaws) near the waters of the Aquidauana river. The Estrada de Ferro Noroeste do Brasil starts in Campo Grande: it was built in 1914 and helped developing the state. Nowadays it is more important from a tourism point of view. Seven hours trip invites people back in the adventurous past of Mato Grosso region. Program is based on set departures, with minimum of 2 participants. Request a customized version.

Day 2 – PANTANAL FARM. Full lodge and board. Excursions and activities: horse riding, boat tour, canoe trip, trek in the pantanal, Jeep tour, sunrise and sunset.                                                                          Day 3 – PANTANAL FARM. BR#014 – The SERRAMAR Train Adventure to ILHA DO MEL – 4 Days & 3 Nights)

Map of the SerramarTraincuritibaCURITIBA – PARANAGUÁ -  ILHA DO MEL – SUPERAGUI NATIONAL PARK: Our tour starts in Curitiba: explore the Arame Opera, The “Eye” Museum (Niemeyer), The Leminsky park and lots of gardens. Curitiba is considered the Ecological and sustainable capital of Brazil. Enjoy a fantastic train trip down the Serra do Mar (mountain range). The railroad was built in 1880 and at that time was a great engineering challenge. The curves and tunnels that cut the Atlantic Rain Forest makes the trip very special. In Paranaguá explore the colonial port, and board in to Ilha do Mel (Honey Island). Two nights there to explore the island, the seaside and nearby Superagui National Park. Return to Curitiba by train, this time going up.: 110km (68miles) of extension, 14 tunnels and 30 bridges, including the São João Bridge with 55meters high.

This is based in fixed departures with minimum of 2 persons. Request the fully escorted version: English, Spanish and French. Budget version available: travel at your own way and time.

ITINERARY
Day 1 – CURITIBA: Arrival and transfer to hotel. Rest of the day to explore the Green capital of Brasil. Our hotel is central. Adventure on the city public transportation system overnight.
Day 2 – CURITIBA – ILHA DO MEL: Departure to train station for the 7h00 am train to Paranaguá. Board on a tourist wagon down the Serra do Mar. Enjoy the fantastic ride. Arrival Paranagua. Lunch and boat transfer to Ilha do Mel. Walk to the pousada and overnight.
Day 3 – ILHA DO MEL: Leisure day in Ilha do Mel: explore beaches, old fortress and a boat visit to the Superagui National Park. Overnight.
Day 4- ILHA DO MEL – CURITIBA: Boat transfer to Paranaguá and train up the mountains back to Curitiba. Arrival train station and transfer to Airport or hotel in Curitiba. End of our Package
